Last week we travelled out to East Burwood Reserve for the first time since 2003 to play a home-and-away game. With the U19's having a bye our reserves started the day in perfect conditions with East Burwood kicking with the breeze and taking the game right up to us in the first quarter. Plenty of hard work from our midfield gave us more scoring opportunities in the second term and we took a slim 9-point lead at the main break.

Knowing we needed to keep the defensive pressure up to them for the third quarter with East Burwood once again kicking with the breeze we let them kick away too easily which cost us the game, even though we fought hard in the last quarter we fell short by a single point. Good signs this group of players is starting to gel really well with great teamwork throughout the match, our second half to the season will be much better. Best players Jake Paul, Zac Leacy, Jason Lange and Matthew Timms.

With such a close result in the reserves the pressure was certainly on our senior players to get a first up win for the season and to their credit they certainly started well kicking with the breeze and taking a 13-point lead into the first break. Needing to work hard to ensure that East Burwood could not maximise the breeze our defence stood up really well keeping them to just two goals for the quarter and keeping us in front at the main break by a slim 5 points.

Knowing the breeze was going to play a significant part in the second half of the match our midfielders and forwards had a fantastic quarter kicking 9 goals to three giving us a 43-point lead going into the final term. To their credit East Burwood did not give up and threw everything at the contest and closed the gap to 7 points by the final siren and we managed to sneak away with the win, best players Jack Callanan, Sam Nevins, Shaun Leach and Daniel Rajab.

We need to be on top of our game this week against Waverley Blues if we are to come away with a win in both games. Go Waters!
