A wet weekend for football at home saw the U19’s come up against Mulgrave while the reserves and seniors played East Burwood. In very wet slippery conditions the 19’s battled hard all day against the top side in the division who showed why they are flag favorites, despite only having 16 players available our boys never stopped trying all day and are a real credit to the club. Best players – Team Effort.

The reserves had a point to prove in their rematch against East Burwood, losing by a point the last time they met in round 6 they knew not to underestimate the opposition. Despite starting well in the wet conditions they were always two points down at each change, in a low scoring game going into the last quarter they would need to work hard to get the win and to their credit they fought it out and managed to come away with a deserved 4 point win. Best players J.Bradbury, A.Poynter, T.Michelson and M.Grubb.

The senior game was one that we did not want to lose, with just half a game separating the teams on the ladder we needed to get some points on the board and get some creditability back. In recent weeks we have started really well and this week was no exception, kicking five goals to one in the first quarter the players were up and about and keen to go on with the game and they continued their dominance in the second quarter kicking 3 goals to 2 and taking a 36 point lead at half time.

The players knew we could not afford to drop off our intensity despite the wet trying conditions and again we played consistent football in the second half, continuing our scoreboard pressure in the third term kicking another 4 goals to three to kick away with a sizable lead that we did not want to have to defend in the last. In one of our best four quarter efforts we kept East Burwood scoreless in the last term and came away with a fantastic 64 point win. Best players were our forward line W.McInerney, B.Galvin, J.Callanan, H.Schroeder and D.Rajab.

Away this week against Nth Ringwood we will need to again be at our best – Go Waters!!
